Riverwood Branch Library, located on the corner of Belmore Road and Roosevelt Street, was officially opened on 11 September 1971 by Alderman J.R. Beaman who was Mayor of Canterbury at the time. It was the seventh and last branch of the City of Canterbury Library Service (Punchbowl, Canterbury and Belmore branches are now closed). The library cost more than $51 000. The Council's Chief Librarian, Miss Rooke, said that the library would contain a collection of 8000 books in the adult section and approximately 4000 in the children's department.

A new library is being planned as part of the Washington Park development in Riverwood, which will replace the existing Riverwood Library and Senior Citizens Centre. The library is expected to be completed in 2017.
