The Canterbury City Council Library Local History Photograph Collection is a unique visual record of Canterbury City from the mid 1800s to the present day. It depicts the development of our diverse, vibrant and innovative community where people of different ages, lifestyle and cultural backgrounds have made the community what it is today.

The Collection features images of people, places, events, organisations, buildings, industry and landscapes photographed by Council agencies as part of their business activities and donated or borrowed from the public. For further information please read our Collection Development Policy.

We thank all who have either donated photographs or allowed access to their private photograph collections for copying. If it were not for the foresight and generosity of these people, this pictorial record would not exist today.
