Thomas Spencer West (1796-1856) built Pembroke Cottage in about 1844.

West bought 8.35ha of land, formerly part of the Kingsgrove estate at Bullanarning, for 300 pounds on December 30, 1843, upon which he built Pembroke Cottage. He lived there with his wife, Lucy, and their two children, Margaret and Spencer. He died on 24 February 1856 and was laid to rest in the graveyard of St Peter's, near the Cooks River.
