Northumberland Farm was originally held by William Laycock, son of Hannah Laycock when he was granted the land at the age of eighteen in 1804[1]. The farm was located on the side of Canterbury Road opposite to the Percy Farm. William was later granted an additional 120 acres in 1812[2].

The property was later owned by John Quigg[3], an Alderman for Canterbury Council from 1885 to 1903, 1905 to 1906, 1908 to 1911 and Mayor during 1891.
