Baseball was introduced to Australia with American gold miners in the gold rush of the 1850s. The Bankstown-Sydenham Baseball League was formed after World War I and served the Canterbury area. During the second World War the League entered the NSW Baseball Association which had been first established in 1894.
In 1946 the Association became the NSW Baseball Union and an official Canterbury-Bankstown Club was established. The first president was Jim Moriarty. The team underperformed in early years, but eventually won the competition first in the 1972-73 season.
